Bill Douglas's trilogy of semi-autobiographical films telling of his improvished childhood growing up in a small Scottish mining town. In My childhood he lives with his brother and grandmother, his mother is in a mental hospital, but when his grandmother dies he realises he can only rely on himself. My Ain Folk tells how after his grandmother's death he is sent to live with his uncle and other grandmother, where his life is filled with rejection and silence. And in My Way Home he moves to Egypt where he is conscripted in the RAF, where he forms a lasting friendship and develops his creative talents. Bill Douglas was born in Newcraighall in Edinburgh, which is where the films are set, and is one of the finest directors ever to come out of Scotland. This restored print of his films is a great chance to introduce yourself to one of Scotland's greatest artists.
